  • What is the Culbertson Rock Hunt?

The Culbertson Rock Hunt is a small-town, winter-long scavenger hunt created by Cody Cosmano Photography. Numbered rocks are hidden around Culbertson and nearby spots — each rock is part of a limited run for the Winter 2025–2026 season.

Hunters explore county roads, ditches, bridges, and shelterbelts looking for the numbered rocks. When you find one, you log it into the website using your hunter account, and it adds to your stats.

The goal isn’t just to “grab the most rocks.” It’s about:

    • Getting outside during eastern Montana’s winter months,
    • Exploring roads and spots you might normally drive past,
    • Photographing the rocks where you find them,
    • And sharing the hunt with friends, family, and classmates.

Later seasons will bring different editions (Prairie Edition, Shelterbelt Deep Hunt, Bridge & Backroad runs) and new ways to track stats, teams, and achievements.

This first Winter 2025–2026 run is intentionally small and experimental. Expect things to evolve, change, and improve as hunters give feedback.

  • Release Info — Winter 2025–2026

The first public Culbertson Rock Hunt season runs through the Winter of 2025–2026. Numbered rock batches are released in waves — you’ll see details on the website and Discord before each release:

    • Release drops posted in Discord and on the website.
    • Some rocks easier to spot, some tucked deeper along backroads.
    • Each rock can only be logged once per hunter account.

Over time, we’ll experiment with special event rocks, limited-release “event hunts,” and team-based challenges. Future seasons may feature different editions focused on prairie, shelterbelt, or bridge runs.

  • How to Play

    1. Make a hunter account on the website using your email. 2. Watch the website and Discord for release announcements. 3. Drive/walk the roads, ditches, bridges, and spots where rocks may be hidden. 4. When you find a numbered rock, photograph it where you found it, then log it on the Final Entry page. 5. Your profile tracks how many rocks you’ve logged, how many hunts you’ve done, and more.

    Safety notes:

    • Stay off private property unless you have explicit permission.
    • Watch for traffic, especially at night or in winter conditions.
    • Respect fences, gates, and posted signs.
